How is this different from adaptive design?

Responsive layouts flow at any width, while adaptive serves fixed layouts at set breakpoints. Fluid is the default because it survives devices that do not exist yet. Where fixed still wins is a dense interface that must not reflow, which is the case made on Adaptive Design, and it is a genuine choice rather than a preference.

Which devices do you actually test on?

Real phones and tablets rather than only the browser resizer, because touch targets, sticky headers and keyboard behaviour all lie in a desktop viewport. One pass on real hardware catches what the simulator misses. Testing also covers speed on a slow connection, measured with Google Lighthouse before launch.

Can you fix a site that breaks on mobile?
